Rockcastle County Schools was proud to join community members and partners for the 2026 Rockcastle County Hunger Walk on September 17 in downtown Mount Vernon.

Hosted by Christian Appalachian Project, the Hunger Walk brings the community together to raise awareness and funds to help provide nutritious food for children, families, and seniors throughout Appalachia. This year’s theme, “Fighting Hunger. Feeding Hope.” highlighted the difference that can be made when a community comes together to support its neighbors.

Several Rocket Learners and Rocket Leaders helped take part in the morning’s program. Sam Hamilton provided the opening statements and prayer, followed by the Presentation of Colors by the RCHS JROTC. RCHS student Aaliyah Caldwell performed the National Anthem.

Rockcastle County Schools Superintendent Dr. Carrie Ballinger also participated in the program alongside students representing schools and programs across the district. Corbin Thacker represented Brodhead Elementary School, Silas Burdette represented Rockcastle County Middle School, Callie Thacker represented Rockcastle County High School, and Ben Chaliff represented RCHS FFA.

The Hunger Walk is a great example of the strength of our community and the impact we can make when schools, organizations, businesses, and community members work together. We are proud of our Rocket Learners and Rocket Leaders for representing Rockcastle County Schools while supporting an important cause right here in our community.
